I have always loved Babar from when I was a little girl. Mum always wanted us to be a little European! I had the figurines, the posters and the books, but I didn't have this adorable money box.
Babar the Elephant is a French children's fictional character who first appeared in 'Histoire de Babar' by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. He is 80 years old and has enjoyed huge success the world over.

The story of Babar goes a little like this - in actual fact it is quite sad. Babar's mother is shot by a hunter and he flees the jungle and finds his way to the big city. He returns to bring the benefits of civilization to his fellow elephants. Then he comes back and becomes king and marries his cousin Celeste (wouldn't cut it these days). Celeste and Babar have three children Pom, Flora, and Alexander and Babar  teaches them valuable lessons.
